UN Women Europe and Central Asia Regional Office held the Regional Forum for the promotion of the Istanbul Convention,on the 27th and 28th November, 2018 in Skopje. The Regional Forum is convened by the Government of Macedonia, Council of Europe, European Commission, and UN Women, in partnership with European Women’s Lobby

The Forum was held in Skopje in recognition and acknowledgment of the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (the Istanbul Convention) by the Government of Macedonia, and its commendable efforts to commit to its implementation.

The Regional Forum encouraged  regional dialogue through which civil society organizations, including organizations representing women from minority and disadvantaged groups, can engage with government representatives and regional institutions on accelerating progress towards the implementation of the of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Istanbul Convention, this agenda has developed concrete proposals for action at national and regional levels. The regional forum enabled  a regional dialogue and knowledge sharing mechanism on the implementation of the both instruments among governments, CSOs, and other concerned stakeholders.

The Forum hosted  over 100 participants, including key stakeholders within national governments, civil society representatives, parliamentarians and representatives of regional institutions on gender equality and ending violence against women in the region.
